This is a benefit for Anthony who is suing Public Storage
for selling a thirty-four year accumulation of papers, books, art, music,
clothes and well, everything, completely without warning when they knew he was
in London, and owed them just $1,350. It is now over two years since Public Storage
(ranked at 986 in Fortune’s 2009
list of the top 1000 corporations in the US, by the way) sold Anthony’s belongings to a single individual, who paid $630.
The buyer is threatening to sell everything, an action
which can be prevented by the posting of a $350,000 bond. Anthony hopes to
either stop the sale of his property or at least recover his private papers and
art of particularly personal significance in advance of what is likely to be a
closely watched trial.
Hence this benefit.
The producer s are
Phil Painson and Peter Makebish and those who have so far agreed to perform are
Nile Rodgers, who will read from his book Le Freak, James Chance, Walter Steding, Michael Holman, with
Gray, Paul Miller AKA DJ Spooky, Matt Katz Bohen, Anthony’s American cousin,
who plays keyboards with Blondie, and the wonderful Broadway singer Melissa
Errico. Penny Arcade will perform and MC, along with Stuart Braunstein. Glenn
O’Brien will add his inimitable touch and another major performer will appear
but, as a shameless exercise in excitement-building, we aren’t yet saying who.
Michael Portnoy will make a performance and the
in-your-face Reno will do stand-up. A performance by the magical Alex “The
Countess” Zapak will be screened from London. Lorraine Leckie has set some of Anthony’s lyrics to music
and Anthony will read a few pieces including some verses from a work in
progress, Public Storage Blues.
Tickets
are $30 at the door.
