4:00 PM Saturday: In the big elevator leaving Larry Poons’ show at Danese, we start pleasant conversation with another couple. We all seem to be feeling each other out about the exhibition…”Did you…”What was your impression…” Do you know the background…” (We love to get fresh thoughts from folks at museums and galleries)

We mentioned our recording of the artist’s interview with Molly Barnes (see excerpts in “Seeing Things”).

“Oh, can we play that if we go to your website?”

Some dismay that only the article is available, the recording was made for our use but we don’t own the right to broadcast it…

“But please take our card and check out the article, it’s going on the homepage by tomorrow.” Yes, new readers!

6:00: When we meet and enjoy talking with the gentleman again at the Tony Oursler show at Lehmann Maupin, he introduces himself as Jerry Saltz (yes, the renowned art critic), and we have now little doubt that the lady in the elevator has similar credentials.

6:30: We greet artist Flash Light as we head in opposite directions on 20th Street.

“Seen any good shows?”

“Check out Jonathan Levine* ,” he replies.

Perhaps we should also ask:

“Been in any good elevators?”
